This viaduct attempts to fulfil the project conditions with a clear, environmentally friendly and integrated in the landscape design. The Iregua River Valley is a natural area near to the city of Logroño which has important Landscape characteristics in spite of its proximity. The obstacle that must be saved by the viaduct is the bed of the river, 300 m wide and a local road which make the final length of the viaduct rise the 345 m. The jump over the valley is carried out with regularly separate piles. This bridge is the answer to all the area requirements, a clean solution full of details, which had been designed with total respect to the natural environment, creating an impressive landscape value. With this arrangement we saved the integrity and continuity of this Special Protected Valley, and also, avoided elements that would have cut the urban tissue, as embankments.
The structure was designed as a continuous composite viaduct with spans of 30+50 (river)+5x40 +35 +30 meters.
In addition to requirements of general arrangement, this bridge must also have an urban detailing due to its proximity to San Pedro Hospital, the main Hospital of La Rioja providing an easy access to it, which was highlighted by means of the color treatment that was given to the steel members, mimicking the viaduct among the leaves of the riparian vegetation, especially in the autumn season.
