Literola Bridge
DESCRIPCION
A new road in the Spanish side of the Pyrenees demanded the construction of a new bridge to overpass a deep gorge. We adopted the solution of a frame bridge with hinges in its arisings because the use of an arch-structure in rocky slopes potentiates the substantial thriftiness of the materials. The resultant design is a light and simple bridge, attractive to the eye, which shows with clarity the forces flow, and is perfectly integrated with the surrounding area. This is one of the first Juan José Arena's works, but we can appreciate still some details of his design, as the plastic hinges in the arigings and the slender imposts of the deck, that with its inclination reflect the sunbeams. All these details are going to be a constant along Arenas Bridge and singular structures career.
