Bridge over the Ebro River Reservoir

DESCRIPCION

The communication between the villages of Corconte and Reinosa in Cantabria, Spain, demanded the construction of a new bridge over the Ebro Reservoir, as the old masonry one was not adapted to the contemporary needing.
This bridge has got its composite girder divided in five spans of 40+3x48+40 m, reaching a length over the surface of Ebro River Reservoir of 224 m. But its most remarkable feature comes from its expressive piers, rhythmically distributed between the abutments, which have its facings designed in the same way than the piers.
The deck cross section is composed by two parallel steel beams topped by a continuous reinforced concrete slab, with two cantilevers holding the sidewalks. Moreover, the use of concrete in double composite action, in its most adequate location under double T beams, plays a crucial role in the intermediate supports areas, where they are needed.

The adopted bridge concept, avoiding unnecessarily large spans and designed with particular emphasis on the careful shaping of piers and deck, integrates perfectly, in our opinion, in the reservoir surrounding landscape, and the white beams constitute a new reference on the reservoir.
